Free, Friendly Yoga and Meditation at Frederick Douglass Park - Saturdays at 9:30 a.m.
Thank you to our friends at Indy Parks – Frederick Douglass Park for supporting this practice and being fantastic partners in community well-being.
***
Yoga at a relaxed pace followed by silent meditation. No special knowledge or experience needed. Come as you are. Wear comfortable clothing. Feel free to arrive when you can and leave when you have to. At our practices, there’s no such thing as showing up late.
Meeting Point: OUTSIDE at Frederick Douglass Park near the tennis courts.
Practice Leaders:
Sarah (they/them) and Tony (he/him) alternating weeks
Schedule:
Yoga 9:30 – 10:45 a.m. You can expect yoga to be at a relaxed pace with space to breathe. We lead movements that help you find ease in your body. You are always free to move as your body recommends. A few mats are available for you to borrow, but please bring your own if you have one.
Silent Meditation 11:00 – 11:30 a.m. We sit quietly, with nothing to achieve or attain. Practicing this way is an opportunity to be natural, let go of pretending, and be in the supportive presence of others practicing the same. We refrain from using language (talking, reading, writing, and phone use). By doing this for each other, we make it easier to turn towards the sounds of the world, both inside us and all around, and really, really hear. We also refrain from making eye contact, which is a way we relieve each other from being viewed.
A few cushions are available. It’s also fine to lie down.
Sharing and Discussion until 11:45 a.m.: Share any questions and reflections and hear what others have to share. It’s ok to just listen, too.
